RIP James. You are nailed on to get the job of announcing the new arrivals at the Pearly Gates.

Awwww, that's a great shame :( None of the replacements will ever be the same as that warm, comforting voice. RIP James.

That is bizarre. Just yesterday I was thinking I wonder how old he is and how it would be a sad day when he died. That has freaked me out.

RIP James, you were an institution.

Forfar 4 East Fife 5..

Although I'm not sure that was a real scoreline.

Perhaps every time Forfar play East Fife it should be for the James Alexander Gordon Cup, just in case they produce the scoreline he always wanted to read out.

Noboby will ever come close to emulating his vocal delivery. RIP.

It was the other way round - I think - I do remember:
East Fife 4 - Forfar 5.

But with James Alexander Gordon, it was his intonation for me. He only had to read half a result for you to know whether it was a home win, away win or a draw.

There really is no other country in the world that can eulogize over the death of a guy who read out the football scores.

I recall the whole of Lords rising when it was announced during play that John Arlott had just completed his last broadcast. To be fair to Aussies (who were fielding), they all applauded too.

What is it about our culture?

I don't know, but I really rather like whatever it is.

I wonder if he would have been the voice on the BBC World Service?
I remember from the early '70's, before I even knew what the pools were, that litany every Saturday.

"Hamilton Academical 2, Patrick Thistle nil."
