Brighton and Hove Albion play their first away match of the season on Saturday when they travel to St Andrews to face Birmingham.

Albion enjoyed facing the Blues last season picking up maximum points in two one nil wins in the Championship.In fact, over the last three seasons in the Championship the Seagulls have lost just once to Birmingham, drawing three times and winning the two games last season.

The results show that recent matches have been close encounters with just the odd goal deciding the game.
The two sides have met 25 times in total, with nine draws and eight wins a piece.

Oscar Garcia picked up his first win as Albion manager thanks to Andrew Crofts's strike 12 minutes from time. The victory ended a run of three consecutive defeats at the start of the season, as Crofts latched onto Kemy Agustien's pass with a cool finish past Blues keeper Darren Randolph.

In another close tie at St Andrews, the Seagulls started badly going one nil down to a Steven Caldwell goal. Six minutes later Ashley Barnes drew Brighton level before David Lopez gave them the lead for the first time in the game, two minutes before the break. Albion played out for the win and almost took all three points, but were denied victory by a last minute equaliser from Birmingham’s 6ft 7in striker Nikola Zigic.

On a day when no one expected Brighton to get anything at St Andrews, a few eyebrows were raised as the Seagulls managed a gutsy draw against the league leaders. Albion found themselves up against it at half time, trailing 2-1. However, in the second half Albion fought back and in the end picked up an excellent point in a thrilling 3-3 draw. The scorers for Brighton on the day were Ian Chapman, Stuart Munday and Stuart Storer. The magnitude of the result was put into context at the end of the season, when Birmingham went on to win the league and gain promotion, while Albion finished in 16th.
