Aaron Hughes is wary of the threat Cheltenham Town can bring in tonight’s Capital One Cup tie, having experienced being an underdog in his international career. The Albion centre-back has often battled against the odds playing for Northern Ireland and knows the feeling of claiming victory against more fancied opposition.
He told seagulls.co.uk, “We maybe have a bit more to lose; I experienced being an underdog with Northern Ireland, so I know the attitude going into these games and how nice it felt when we did cause an upset.
“They’ll be coming here with that attitude of having nothing to lose and they’ll make it a tough test for us. We have to be ready for that and now need to focus on how the manager wants us to play.
“We can’t leave anything in the changing room and need to give everything on the pitch, otherwise we’ll be heading out of the competition.
“If we prepare properly then it can only improve our chances of winning games.”

Manager Sami Hyypia is expected to rotate his squad for tonight’s match given the hectic fixture list, but Hughes says all the players are prepared for the prospect of two matches in four days.“As players, we are in the mind-set of having a day or two to recover from a tough game on Saturday before getting ready for the next game.
“You’ve got to get your mind ready for the match and then see what happens, because the manager only picks his team a couple of hours beforehand.
“You can’t assume or expect anything because the situation can change very quickly. If he does think of rotating and someone goes down ill overnight, then all of sudden you’ve gone from not being in the squad to playing, so everyone prepares as if they’re going to be involved.”
