A Sheffield Wednesday fan has been cautioned by police after being arrested for going on to the pitch after the Owls win at Brighton.

The 20-year-old was tackled to the ground by stewards after going on to the pitch to celebrate after the 1-0 victory.

A Sussex Police spokesman said today: “A 20-year-old man from Pontefract was arrested on suspicion of going on to the playing area at a football match after the final whistle at Brighton and Hove Albion v Sheffield Wednesday at the American Express Community Stadium at Falmer on Saturday.

“He was taken into custody at Brighton and cautioned shortly after 6.30pm.”

Fans of Sheffield Wednesday had accused stewards at Brighton of over-reacting after four of them tackled the supporter.

How can he be arrested ' suspicion of going onto the playing area' no suspicion at all he either did or didnt go on the pitch and we all saw that he did. No disputing that it probably warranted a caution not a charge.

Because you are arrested before the crime is proven in a court of law.

So when the charge is made it changes from suspicion to an offense as you not charged with suspicion are you?

I think it's something to do with him accepting a caution so he was never officially charged.

Yeah, as I understand it, you are arrested on suspicion of committing a crime. When you are charged you are then alleged to have committed a crime. Then if it is proven in a court of law, you are guilty of committing the crime. Even if there are a hundred witnesses and video footage of you doing it in the first place.

Well hopefully they wont show the thuggery seen at Brighton as Northerners tent to be a little more friendly

Maybe they ought to be a bit more aggressive, then they might have stopped that pissed up Leeds fan having a swing at their keeper last year.

20 years old, so should know better and deserves a ban for the rest of the year.
