Depends I suppose, I have one on my car as its new and as the garage collects and re-delivers the car when its annual service is needed it saves me a lot of hassle as I have to get it serviced at the dealership.

If it not a new car its probably cheaper to put £x amount into another account each month so you have the money availble when the service is due.

Depends on the provider. As with all insurance policies (which is exactly what these are by another name), they are marketed as helping you deal with costs, both expected and unexpected, whilst being extremely carefully constructed to minimise risk for the provider.

If it's just spreading the known costs that you are after then the most reliable source is yourself...just divide your known costs by 12 and setup a direct debit into a savings account each month.

My dad was in insurance for 50 years and I've seen too many people miss sold or hung out to dry to believe in it I'm afraid.
