Aside from a house or car what is your most expensive purchase?

This is a question in a weekly Guardian interview which always interests me. Do NSC have any stand out crazy purchases? Any Damian Hirsts out there? Anyone bought a bottle of wine for 20k? I don't, but I am nosey.

4 acre smallholding in Cornwall. Best thing I have ever spent money on hands down.

I've just spent a lot of money on a holiday which is easily my biggest purchase outside of flat and car, but if we're talking about material things then about £600 on a sofa, more on my PC but not all in one go.

I assumed we were talking material things.

Immaterial things: Many tens of thousands of pounds on solicitors and a barrister for a legal thing a few years back. Holidays cost a lot too.
Material thing: a watch, followed a mountain bike and a MacBook Air. A suite of John Lewis bedroom furniture cost more than all of those combined but that was 6 items really.

I've often gone years without any form of insurance because of not having any single items of any great value - we don't have any valuable items of art of jewellery for example. I appreciate something like a house fire, meaning replacement of everything, would be costly so I tend to buy it now.
