Jimmy Muiit scored a hat-trick as Brighton & Hove Albion under-21s proved too good for Arundel in a convincing 4-0 win.
George Cole fired over within 90 seconds of the start to set the tone for the evening and Rob Hunt couldn’t quite find the right connection with his head to put away Jimmy Muitt’s cross.*
Albion had started impressively and the Seagulls didn’t have to wait long to break the deadlock as Charlie Harris’s delivery from wide on the right was well turned home by Muitt on the half-volley.*
James Fernandes denied Muitt and Albion a second as he turned the young forward’s drive around the post. From the resulting corner the Mullets keeper produced a magnificent one-handed save to deny Tom Dallison, but Robin Deen swept home the rebound as the Seagulls extended their advantage.*
Albion could have opened up a more comfortable half-time lead but Fernandes in the Arundel goal kept Albion at bay with as string of fine saves, denying Jesse Starkey, Cole, Bradley Barry and Deen to keep the score at 2-0. When Starkey ad Cole did beat the Mullets stopper, their efforts whistled just wide.*
Ireland’s side continued in the same vein after the break and Muitt grabbed his second goal of the night as he beat the on-rushing Fernandes to the ball and poked it past him into the empty net.
Half-time substitute Emil Asmundsson saw a decent strike from distance flash wide while Deen came close again, before Muitt completed his hat-trick with an expertly taken header to complete the scoring from Jason Davis's cross.*
