Brighton & Hove Albion boss Sami Hyypia believes that there is no better pre-season training than friendly games despite the 2-1 loss to Peterborough United yesterday.
The League One side came from behind to leave Brighton winless in three games but Albion’s Finnish manager felt his side have picked up some valuable lessons during each match.
He told seagulls.co.uk, “No game is a waste because at the beginning of the season we may face sides that are similar so we have to adapt to these conditions and maybe change our style a bit.
“But we don’t get any points for these games and these matches are preparation for the season.
“When it really counts is when I see the team doing the right things on the pitch and we are going forward with the things we want them to do. The players are working hard and trying to do the right things.
“It was a good work out for the players [against Peterborough] and I believe friendly games are the best training sessions that you can have.
“It is a real game situation, there is a crowd and you play in the stadiums so they are the best opportunities to practice what you will do in games.
“When you win you can take confidence from the result, everyone always wants to win and if you don’t then there is something wrong with you to do this job.”*
