You know the problem with these types of question is that you think you have the definitive answer and along comes someone else who mentions another tune that you'd forgotten.

I'm a real sucker for Southern Rock so will nominate either Ram Jam with 'Black Betty' or Creedence Clearwater Revival 'Round The Bend'.

Wow , how can you pick a winner out of that lot.

Saying that, nothing after 1990 on that list should even get close to winning.

Seems that they have only chosen one per artist.
I would of had this for Fleetwood Mac [yt]kTvKaLW5bu8[/yt]

But being a Boss fan, I will go for:
1/ Born to Run by Bruce
2/ Cant Explain by The Who
3/ Oh Well by Fleetwood Mac

EMF - 'Unbelievable' is on that list. Hahahahaha! Next you'll be telling me that the BBC chose Ed Sheeran as the most influential figure in black and urban music in the UK!

....oh.

Radiohead 'No Surprises' - does that have a 'riff' as such? If you'd asked me to pick a Radiohead tune for the list I'd have gone for 'Creep'.

Yeah that was a weird one, there are at least 5 other Radiohead tracks with a better riff IMO.

Creep
Just
Paranoid Android
Bones
The Bends

You're spot on. And I'd like to change my Radiohead nomination to 'The Bends', please!

Similarly, while obviously an iconic riff, Smells Like Teen Spirit is not even the best Nirvana riff, let alone the best of the last century.

All Apologies or In Bloom for me.

Bizarre list all round imho. The Feelgood track - Milk and Alcohol - after Wilko Johnson left? What about Roxette or She Does It Right. Clash - Should I Stay or Should I Go before London Calling?

Having said that, some great riffs - That Lady by the Isleys for me, I think.

Of that list, I think I would choose Van Halen's Ain't Talking About Love. It's a beauty.
