When are the FFP fines going to kick in?

We seem to be the flag carriers for FFP, be nice to know when we can expect to benefit from it as other clubs get the come uppance for their over spending. When will the clubs who are due to be fined be notified?

No doubt there will be legal challenges etc. and it'll drag on for ages but it would still be good to know when the shit will be hitting the fan for the over spenders.

Isn't it January? All the finance reports are due in December, and the results will be known in time to stop people doing business in the January window. In theory.

If - IF - they kick in, it won't be until after the football clubs release their financial results for the year ending 30th June 2014 - which will be some time around January to March next year, going on previous experience.

As for the process of punishing errant clubs - who knows...?

Accounts need to be lodged in December, so some time after that. But the only ones to be fined will not be in our league any more and we will not see any of the money (unless it has changed again) so not sure how we will benefit from fines?

Not wanting to cause aggro, but while you describe yourselves as the 'Flag carriers for FFP' the last set of accounts wouldn't particularly support that, would they?

A very good point. Besides, I would imagine that the majority of clubs will make losses of less than £8m, so we won't be the only ones.

As for legal challenges, Man City and PSG have decided against trying to challenge their £50m fine and limitation of squads for European games.

Taken on their own, no. But when you factor in that our wages included around £1m in redundancy payments, at least one bonus for Paul Barber clinching a big new sponsorship deal, that several of our deals signed in league one were in their final year, and that when they were announced it was mentioned that they brought forward as much of this past season's costs as they could, leaving us in a position where the club are very confident we will meet FFP for the 2013/14 season (even with bids of over £1m for a couple of players in January). Then factor in the sales of Barnes and Bridcutt (close to 5m supposedly), then look at the players we have passed on, or failed to agree terms on (Grabban, Conway) because we want to stick to FFP. Also include the propaganda side of things, the meetings where we support it, the public calls for sticking strong to it, etc.

Taken in that context, you can maybe start to understand the claim.

I don't know if there are other clubs doing more to get behind and support FFP, or how much the lack of inward transfer activity so far this year is causing people to think we're more important in the FFP landscape than we really are, but just pointing at last season's finances is not really a fair way to judge our FFP standing on its own.

Wasn't that in the face of threats of other restrictions while the challenge raged on? (I can't remember specifically, something like not being allowed to enter the champions league while the challenge was under way or something)

Never.

At least we know that next year there will be no point in complying with them though.

I think you will find TB will adhere to them even if there are no fines etc

He wants the club run properly.

Dont assume if there are no rules, Tony will chuck 20 million on transfers or something stupid.

Didn't TB have a meeting recently with the FL regarding this? he said the outcome would determine this seasons budget?

I don't doubt all of the above, it's just that if you look at it as an outsider, (and while remembering the travails your clubs has been through) the club have benefited hugely from having big losses underwritten by Bloom etc. So it's just the taking of the moral high ground on the subject that sticks in the throat a bit.

Precisely, can't remember the exact number but our FFP losses were about £2m

And whilst still complying with FFP this year the club hasn't spunked silly money on mediocre players that rack up hideous debts. It seems as though we've learned from the mistakes of the late 70s and 80s.

Eugh from a sport where you dreamt about having the best players for your team playing in the biggest league to one where people argue on internet forums about whose accounts look the best. Depressing and oh so very dull but some might say an important sign of the times.

Fines only apply to promoted clubs, other clubs that break the rules will be subject to transfer embargoes until the accounts comply with the rules.

HOWEVER, as the likes of QPR are not members of the Football League, it could be argued that they do not have to pay the fines until they are once again within the 72.

Best way the FL could deal with QPR if this was to be the case would be to,on their almost certain return to the 72 drop them into league 2,QPR signed up to FFP they should abide by the rules.

QPR were not part of the FL when the rules were introduced.
