I know a fella from Tunbridge Wells who has just been named in the England team for the world fishing championships - Rikki Cooper is his name, apparently a very good professional angler, but I don't really have much of a clue about how it all works, as the last time I went fishing it was for sticklebacks, with bamboo nets, and I was about 4.

Well, I will. What do the interim weigh-ins do? Do they "count" at all, or is it just a way of keeping score as the competition progresses?

Yep every 30 mins theres a weigh in the scores registered and after the 5 hours totted up, the fish that are caught every 30 mins are kept in the anglers main keepnet then released after the final weigh in

Yep, but only the final weigh-in counts for the trophies; not all the interim ones...?

Yes the final total of all the weigh ins count no prizes for the interims
30k for the winner 5k for 2nd 1k for the heaviest single fish of the match

Thanks! £30k, eh? Not bad at all!

I picked up my barbel rods a couple of weeks ago and had two days on the upper Severn - 20 barbel to 7lb and 6 chub to 5lb - much fun was had!

So why bother with interim weigh ins, why not one big weigh in at the end
