Albion reject "final" Leicester bid for Ulloa

Brighton and Hove Albion have rejected Leicester City’s latest offer for Argentine striker Leonardo Ulloa.

City have had three previous bods for the 27-year-old rejected and their fourth offer is believed to have been over £6 million, which would have smashed City’s club record transfer fee paid for a player.

However, the Seagulls are standing firm on their desire to hold on to Ulloa, who they have valued at £10 million.

City are looking to add more options to their forward line this summer and manager Nigel Pearson is looking for a striker that can offer something different to the strikers already at his disposal.

City have also held talks with Cardiff City striker Fraizer Campbell, but could not agree personal terms.

Leicester City have had a bid of £6.25 million for Leonardo Ulloa rejected by Brighton aned Hove Albion.
Nigel Pearson - who has also offered Jamie Vardy a new contract - wants to sign a proven goalscorer this summer.
He was prepared to smash Leicester City’s transfer record - the £5 million they paid Wolverhampton Wanderers for striker Ade Akinbiyi - with a renewed bid for Ulloa.
Leicester have already had at least three offers rejected for the Argentine but have weighed up whether to pay the asking price and they could now finally end their protracted pursuit.
Sunderland forward Connor Wickham has also been considered by last season’s Championship winners with an inquiry made last week.
Ulloa, 27, is believed to have told Brighton of his desire to leave but any move has been held up by the steep asking price.
Pearson is also focusing on keeping his squad together for the forthcoming season and Vardy, the forward, has been offered a new four-year deal.
Vardy scored 16 goals last season and was the subject of interest from Southampton in the January transfer window.
David Nugent also signed a two-year deal, while England under-21 international Liam Moore and highly-rated youngster Jeff Schlupp have been offered one-year extensions.

It won't be the last offer they have failed with Campbell over wages, wickham fee + wages would be way above what we are asking for ulloa. They need a striker and whether they want to or not as an unfashionable newly promoted club they are going to have to pay over the odds for it

Albion last night turned down Leicester City’s latest bid for Leo Ulloa.
But the Foxes are expected to retain interest in the Seagulls striker after seeing an offer believed to be in excess of £6million knocked back.
Ulloa is currently hard at work with the Albion squad in Spain, where they face Partick Thistle tomorrow in their second pre-season friendly of the summer.
The Foxes are convinced the lure of top-flight football could help them land the Argentinean, who is keen to play in the Premier League.
But Albion have insisted they have no pressing need or desire to sell.
Other clubs are likely to be interested in Ulloa, which would make it in Leicester’s interest to tie up a deal as soon as possible as the Premier League transfer market starts to crank into gear.
Leicester made their latest bid just a day after securing their out-of-contract top scorer David Nugent on a new two-year deal.
The Argus have been told it is not necessarily a final offer

Not if it cost nearly as much to replace him as 20 goal a season strikers cost megabucks

I think so to. It's a mistake to compare the potential Ulloa deal with the one for McCormack. £8m for a Championship striker is unbelievable business. The challenge, as always, is replacing him.

Yeah but is every other bit of business we are doing hanging on the Ulloa sale

?? Are we going to go into a second season ill prepared at kick off?

Yes, or Ulloa misses training as "his head isn't in the right place at the moment" tactic.

Ulloa's agent will be fully au fait with the dark arts of forcing a move.

How is it great business?
He's the target man, he holds the ball up brilliantly, he knocks the centre backs about, he has great feet, good in the air... Oh and he scores - a lot.

We would have to lash out at least that to replace him like for like.

So let's keep him eh.

Looks like it at the moment. Compare our ratio of outs to ins compared with all our rivals.

If Ulloa isn't the hold up then we are making a pigs ear of it again. But I think Ulloa is the hold up regarding both requirements and budget.
