Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-21s kick-off the club's pre-season tour in Spain tonight against Japan’s Under-21s in La Manga.*
Simon Ireland’s squad travelled a day after the first team arrived in Spain and will face the Japanese at 7pm (Spanish time, 6pm UK time).*
Ireland told seagulls.co.uk, “We are expecting to come up against some technically good players in warm conditions so it is not an easy start to pre-season for the boys but we are well prepared.
*“Even though it is pre-season I am always assessing their application and desire to progress to the next level and being competitive is essential at any time of the season when representing this club.
“With some of the more senior members of our squad with the first team it has created space for the others to come in and show what they are made of, including a few of the under-18s, so the game and the trip as a whole is valuable experience for everyone.
“They are a good, trustworthy group and this week together will make them even stronger and more determined to fight for each other on the pitch.*
“We have worked hard at home to get them ready for the trip and we have had some time here to as well, so now we will see where they are in terms of fitness and what areas we need to work on in the lead up to the season.”
