Sam Baldock was made captain by Bristol City last season
Albion have had a bid turned down for Bristol City striker Sam Baldock.
The Seagulls tabled an undisclosed offer for the former MK Dons and West Ham forward who was the top scorer in League One last season with 24.
Albion boss Sami Hyypia has identified Baldock, 25, as a target as he looks to add to the only two forwards currently at the club – Leo Ulloa and Craig Mackail-Smith.
City are keen to hang on to Baldock though who was made captain by boss Steve Cotterill last season and is an integral part of their ambition to win promotion back to the Championship.
Baldock has a year remaining on his contract but the Robins do not need to cash-in on their prize asset due to their backing by multi-millionaire businessman Steve Lansdown.
Lansdown rejected a bid of £6m from Leicester City for striker Nicky Maynard in 2011 and is expected to stand firm if Albion return with an improved offer in the coming days Baldock is also understood to be happy at Bristol and the recent signing of close friend Aaron Wilbraham means he is even less likely to want to leave Ashton Gate.
