We've seen it before, a random player turns in 3 decent performances in a World Cup, they get a massive transfer and turn out to be a massive flop.
My vote is for El Hadji Diouf to Liverpool for £10m after 2002 World Cup :shit:

Florin Raducioiu. Decent World Cup for Romania. Picked up by Harry Redknapp for West Ham. Played 11 times in two years at Upton Park.

Didn't Toto Scillachi go for big money after Italia 90 and bomb?

He was signed before the world cup, and never scored in it.

He actually signed on 19 June 1998, the day after France's second match in World Cup 1998. He'd failed to score despite pisspoor opposition in Saudi Arabia and South Africa, teams France beat 3-0 and 4-0. The writing was on the wall before he put pen to paper, and Newcastle could technically have bailed out, but I take the point the signing wasn't made after the tournament. He was a very ordinary player in a brilliant side though.

Long time ago, but he seemed to just drop off the face of the earth following Italia 90.

Talking of that World Cup, Gazza to Lazio was a bit of a disastrous transfer. Wasn't the deal done right after but meant that he stayed at Spurs for one season, then, unfortunately for Lazio, he injured himself in the last game of that season and spent the following year recovering, during which time he had a set back after going out on the lash with Jimmy 5 Bellies, and was never quite the same player.
