Brazil crowds - where's the atmosphere?

what is going on?

No drums, no samba, nothing. They has been a feature of every
world cup I can remember when Brazil have played most notably
Spain 82.

And the crowd sounds like those under 15 Scotland vs. England
schoolboy internationals screaming whenever Brazil get
the ball and then going quiet. It's bloo*y cringeworthy.

I just don't get it.

Haven't they banned all musical instruments in the grounds? Hence no England band

I'm watching Mexico, and you can tell that they are making a Hell of a noise. They've just scored twice and the crowd has gone mental, you can tell from the pictures. I say that this is how you can tell because the crowd's noise level seems to have been turned down. A distant roar when they scored...

Is this deliberate? If so, why?

My guess is it's because they've spent most of the budget on the presentation of the Brazil game, they know the majority of people will be watching that one, there's probably one microphone at the Mexico game

It's hard to believe that these games are being played in the same country that produces this sort of atmosphere at local games..

Exactly my point. I've watched a league game in the Maracana - and the atmosphere was magic.

Commentators in a studio in England rather than at the game.

FIFA have finally killed the WC as far as I am concerned. All about the money and the main sponsors! Have you noticed how when they do a lot of the 'crowd shots' they always seem to be prominently holding large Budweiser or Coca Cola drinks cups or holders, that is no coincidence. Ive only had a passing interest in this world cup and that will probably dissipate to no interest at all if they insist in holding it in the corrupt unfriendly shithole that is Russia and the inhospitable rocky desert (but oil rich) of Qatar. Screw FIFA, screw the World Cup.

I'm sorry, but how does having large cups with sponsors logos on them spoil a World Cup?

Agree , because this has now become a corporate event with ticket prices out of the reach of many Brazilians you only now get JCL's , Brazil fans anyway so hardly any passion !

For me, it's a symptom rather than a cause. It's a reflection on the commercialisation of the game - In many instances a visit to the footy is more akin to a visit to the cinema, padded seats, fancy food etc ( :lolol:) and some of the passion has gone. It's utterly cringeworthy when inconsolable fans of a team just being eliminated from the world cup spot the camera's on them and start excitedly waving and screaming at it.

Note, I realise some people like football as sanitised entertainment, but it's not for me. The games have been quite good though.

That one thing doesnt of course and i didnt say that, its just another indication of the corporate sell out that is ruining football at the top levels, both internationally and domestically, there are dozens more examples: Instances of fans being refused entry or booted out for wearing branded clothing of the main sponsors rivals, the large proportion of tickets at matches being allocated to corporate sponsors etc, the fans are just seen as consumers now and the tournament experience for most is now just a huge sanitised sterile FIFA managed advertising show.
