Albion could be priced out of making a renewed move for Leyton Orient’s highly-rated winger Moses Odubajo.
The Seagulls were interested in Odubajo during the January transfer window but were rebuffed by the O’s.
The asking price has risen appreciably since then due to Odubajo’s continued good form and eye-catching performance in Orient’s League One play-off final defeat by Rotherham at Wembley last month.
New Albion boss Sami Hyypia has begun the process of assessing the squad and areas that need strengthening ahead of his formal unveiling on Thursday.
They will include another wide man following the return of loan signing Jesse Lingard to Manchester United, the release of Andrea Orlandi and repeated fitness concerns last season surrounding Will Buckley.
Odubajo, 20, netted 12 times for the O’s, including the play-off semi-final at Peterborough and a spectacular effort in the defeat by Rotherham on penalties which prevented the East Londoners from joining Albion in the Championship.
Spurs and West Ham are believed to have monitored Odubajo, who has a year remaining on his contract at the Matchroom Stadium.
Orient chief and former Albion boss Russell Slade has said it will require a “sizeable offer” to tempt them to sell.
Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest were last night on the verge of completing the capture of Matt Fryatt. Albion have reportedly been among several clubs interested in signing the Hull striker.
