How are we pronouncing this Hyypia chap?

As the literal pronunciation is apparently 'impossible' in an English accent, how are we going to be pronouncing our new manager's surname?

Hoo-pee-a
Her-pee-a
Hip-pee-a
Any other suggestions?

I've always thought of him as Hip-pee-a, so regardless of the correct pronunciation, that's what I'm sticking with.

Just listened to a few Finns pronounce it and the closest seems to be Her-pee-a, though the "her" part is a bit, well, more Scandinavian, than we'd pronounce "her"

That's confirmed by the man himself.

Still, the Billy Big Bo**ocks yet again stamped his opinion as plain fact yet again. Well done you

So people are saying hur-pea-ya but he pronounces it hoo-pea-ya?

I think he may have anglicised the pronunciation in that video. Have a listen to these two Finns pronouncing it: http://www.forvo.com/word/sami_hyypiä/

It's sort of a cross between "her" and "hoo" - sort of "Huerr".

Anyway, if he's happy with "Hoo", that'll do me.

Or - Sami, of course.

Poyet is pronounced Poo-shet in Uruguay apparently, never heard anyone say it like that though. I dont hear anyone calling Jones, Jowens like they do in Wales, so I shall be sticking with Hippier for Hyypia. Unless Aspinall comes up with something I like better.
