Brighton & Hove Albion is to launch its first-ever female specific football academy in conjunction with Worthing College, ready for the start of next season.

The women’s football academy will be a full-time education and football development programme opened up to talented 16–18 year-old footballers. The new academy will play a prominent role in the women and girls set-up at Albion, bridging the gap between the Girls’ Centre of Excellence and the senior women’s set-up.
The football specific part of the programme will take place at the club’s new state-of-the-art training ground in Lancing, while the education will be delivered by Worthing College who will offer a wide range of BTEC and A-Level qualifications.
This academic pathway will fit around the training schedule, offering the best possible combination of a joint football and education programme.

Albion’s head of football operations, David Burke, believes this is an exciting time for the whole club and that the academy will help to achieve the ultimate aim of securing Women’s Super League (WSL) football.“It’s very exciting, as everyone knows that we really want to promote the women’s game here at the club.
“We want to become part of the Women’s Super League (WSL) as soon as we possibly can and this addition to our talent pathway can only help further that ambition.
“The one thing missing from women’s football generally across the country is a programme for the girls to help with the transition from elite youth football to senior football.
“With the addition of the new academy at Brighton & Hove Albion, this pathway is now in place and will be under the guidance of Tracy Doe our elite women and girls football manager.
“It’s great to note that Peter Corrigan, the principal, and Paul Cox, college director, are fully focussed on wanting to provide not only grassroots level players, but also pathways for athletes to succeed at an elite level.”
Paul Cox, the Worthing College director, is thrilled to be linking up with Albion and hopes to see a number of talented players coming through the system.
“This partnership will further strengthen our local, regional and national sporting reputation. Through our combined resources, expertise and passion for sporting excellence and opportunity our partnership will further enhance an already strong programme.
“Sussex and the South East has the potential to become a national powerhouse of women’s football and I look forward to seeing future England stars develop through this exciting opportunity.”
The college principal, Peter Corrigan, echoed Cox’s sentiments and believes the partnership alongside Albion will greatly aid the development of talent young athletes for many years to come.
“Sport at Worthing College is outstanding and this development adds to the superb opportunities available to young aspiring athletes. We are delighted and proud to be entering a partnership with Brighton & Hove Albion to increase opportunities, achievement and progression for young players.”
