Somehow I am happier when Root and Balance are out and we get Morgan to bat. Morgan and Cook now need to hit a good few runs please. 122-3 26 overs

Why does Root keep getting picked? He really is bang average. Another innings of 10 today I see.

It's an amazingly slow pitch, Bell's wicket ball very nearly went backwards after it bounced, the bowler looked almost embarrassed when he caught it.

It's laughable that our top 4 is so pedestrian and orthodox, plus has almost zero ability to hit the ball over the ropes.

Bell is a joke in ODI cricket yet he's got a ridiculous number of caps. Every innings is the same, gets in looks in good touch and gives his wickett away in the 30's/40's and puts pressure on players coming in who have to up the tempo quickly.

Agree with this. Bell and Cook are a crazy opening partnership, and the batting order is ridiculous - 1-4 are pedestrian, our only decent batsman (capable of playing to conditions) plays at 5 and then 6-8 are glorified sloggers. It's either one or the other and never the twain shall meet.

I'd drop Cook (but you could easily make a case for Bell instead or as well) and go Hales, Bell, Ballance, Morgan, Root, Bopara, Buttler, Jordan, Broad, Tredwell, Anderson (although Gurney has bowled well and I'd consider him instead of Anderson or Broad based on form).

Bell has an average of 37 with a SR of 76 which is better than Gooch, Collingwood, Strauss, Stewart, Hussain, Gatting, Vaughan and a whole host of other players in ODI's.

Don't disagree with our pace of innings though. Why are we so content to label youngsters as not being ready for certain forms of the game. Hales not ready for ODI's, Buttler not ready for tests…if you're good enough, you're ready. For Hales see Warner. Warner a T20 specialist couldn't open in tests could he!?

England will remain in the image of their captain, conservative, adverse to risk, playing the stats.

Not in the spirit of cricket - Buttler run out at none strikers end before ball delivered.

"Oh boy! This is a moment. Buttler is run out back room. Senanayake had warned him previously. Buttler backed up again. Senanayake appeal and the umpire asked Mathews if he wanted to uphold it. Mathews said yes. Buttler given out. This will be a story."

BOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Buttler gone. We should stop panicking when it goes against us. We never seem to reevaluate what a good score would be. 240 / 250 could be a decent total on this pitch, with 7 overs left we shouldn't be pressing the panic button thinking we have to get to 270 / 280+.
