Gareth Southgate has been impressed
Gareth Southgate has revealed the key ingredient which has helped Albion’s young lions make an international impression.
Jake Forster-Caskey and Solly March hope to extend their stay in the south of France by helping England under-21s to a point or more against Colombia today.
Such a result would be enough to secure England a third-place play-off on Sunday in the Toulon tournament.
They would be there already, and still have an outside chance of making the final, had a few lively second-half promptings from March led to a winning goal against South Korea on Tuesday.
Or had Forster-Caskey’s clever pass for Fulham striker Cauley Woodrow to score early secured better than a 1-1 draw.
Both Seagulls players have had their moments with the ball at their feet.
But Southgate reckons it is their ability to adapt mentally to their new challenges which has helped them in what have generally been tense, tactical battles on the Cote d’Azur.
The England coach told The Argus: “They’ve been very good and I’ve been very pleased with them.
“They’re both good footballers and I think they’re intelligent footballers, more importantly.
“They’ve been a pleasure to work with since they joined us and I think they’ve been a credit to their club.”
