1. Knowing that sometimes you need to change tactics when plan a isn't working.
2. Being flexable with formations, knowing full well others are watching you and if your to predictable, you will be worked out.
3. Knowing what type of players suit this league...i.e will roll their sleeves up and get stuck in when things aren't going your way.
4. Knowing the players you are up against, their strengths and their weaknesses.
5. Making average players, good players by man management. Either a kick up the arse or an arm around the shoulder, depending on the character of the player.
6. Picking a starting 11 to win any given game, not just sticking the same line up time after time. If this means sacrificing quality for determination(Orlandi/Buckley) then so be it. Horses for courses.
7. Making tough decisions, in dropping certain players when form demands it, regardless of who they are.
All of the above comes from experience.

How soon is now?
It seems incredible that the managers available, who have experience of getting out of the Championship, are also those that can't seems to keep their jobs once promoted.
What do you do? Employ Hughton or Mackay on a 1 year rolling deal in an attempt to get promoted, and then hope they can keep you IF you get promoted? Or is this where you take a punt on someone like Clements who is obviously tactically competent, but doesn't know the league, but could be the proverbial 'dark horse'
