Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-15s are national champions, after winning the Premier League Academy Category Two Final at the weekend.

On Saturday, at Warwick University, Ian Buckman’s team beat Derby County, Crewe Alexandra and Brentford to scoop the national prize. The Albion’s under-15s coach said, “The boys don’t always play in a competitive environment, so it was nice to see them grow and develop over the day.
“They knew they had to start fast and learn how to manage games when they were winning and losing.
*
“They had to deal with situations that they’re not normally used to, so it was good to see their characters and personalities come out.

“With the move to the training ground as well, hopefully we can provide a great environment for these lads to push on and keep progressing in the years to come.”Albion’s head of football operations paid tribute to the team, and told seagulls.co.uk that one of the key ingredients of the success is the extra hours the players have spent on at the club working on their football development.
"The boys still have a little way to go with their development - and this doesn't mean they're guaranteed a development contract - but it does give them the confidence to go into the next stage of their development knowing that they have as good a chance as any young player of their age.
*
"We hope that the success demonstrates to all our young academy players that their commitment to extra hours practice , working hard to better themselves, is a successful formula - and that it motivates all our academy players to optimise their time at the new training facility when it opens next month.”
