1966 - a real rite of passage. This little lad discovered his passion for footie, was captivated by the England World Cup campaign on black and white telly, every day was jumpers for goalposts.
Then later in 1966 on a misty autumn evening my Dad took me to the Goldstone for my first ever live footie game, I was stunned by the glorious clour of the whole experience, under floodlights with a pristine luminous green pitch, watching the Albion win 2-0 over Oldham.
Here I am nearly 50 years later just as besotted with the Albion. 1966 was a very important year, I'll never forget it.

Some further evidence to your theory would be that we drew 0-0 with Reading Away from home and drew 1-1 with Reading at home in the 65/66 season. What were our results home and away in the league V Reading this season!?
England are nailed on to win the world cup now.....or will it just be the host nation?

Hate to be THAT guy...but it was 2006 actually, West Ham were beating Liverpool 2-0 but went on to lose.

Agree.
But we didn't win it, although we perhaps could/should have done. Taking off Charlton when we were two up to save him for the semis, and the infamous 'poisoning of Banks'
I think we would have beaten Italy in the semis, and then who knows against Brazil in the final.
