OK, here is the first group of pubs up for consideration of disgrace.

• The first pub in the selection is the 'seed'; the 'seeds' being decided on which pubs got the most nominations.

• Other pubs were drawn at random

• You can vote for as many of the pubs as you wish, if you think they're worthy of moving on to the knockout phase.

• There are four groups of six, and two pubs with the most votes go through to the quarter-final

• You have until Sunday evening to consider which pub should go through.

**** me, Bat & Ball by far. I remember going in there when I was 19 when I use to BMX. Just popped in for a quick pint, the clientele, well. Words cannot quite explain it.

I'd consider Pitcher & Piano more of a bar, a shit one at that. My mate pulled a girl in there once, phoned us up a few hours later to tell he's lost his tooth because her lesbian girlfriend punched him in the face (she was bi, and drunk as hell). Also, I had noticed a lot of middle aged men in Superdry tee shirts, orange tan and comb overs. Middle life crisis centre?

P&P used to be decent but really went downhill had a shockingly rapid rate.

Though I would vote for bat and ball out of that lot, grotty little place.

I'm not sure The Pond has a place in this poll, it's a reasonable enough pub.

It received many nominations.

Some pubs were nominated because they were 'small' or 'popular' or 'middle-class' or 'lifestyle' (whatever that means) pubs.

I've gone for William IV due to a row I had in there when I asked to use their toilet. They said only customers so I ordered a half. The landlady rolled her eyes and said "You'll have to do better than that". I was half tempted to whip the old chap out and piss on the floor but instead I mumbled something about thinking she should appreciate any trade she got and left.

The other pubs in this stage, with the exception of The Pond are all godawful holes. Very hard to choose between them.

Weird that the Franklin is doing so poorly, I can only assume this is because it's in the town centre, so many have not had the "pleasure".

I would say Pitcher and Piano as it's god awful but I had fun @ a christmas party there one year so I go for bat & ball
