Orlandi and David

Your question for this afternoon, folks.

We know they are both good, skillfull players who performed well under Poyet.

How come they have both been dismal under Oscar? I know Orlandi's been injured but he has shown nothing like the class he had last season, and the same for David.

Were both of them just better suited to Poyet's slower, tippy-tappy style - or is there something about the way Oscar's teams play that just doesn't suit them? Or is it simply a case of Poyet, unlike Oscar, being able to bring out the best in players?

They (and Buckley) have been major disappointments this season and I'm guessing they'll probably both move on over the summer. A shame really, because we know what they're capable of.

Orlandi just never got enough game time to get up to proper match level fitness and sharpness. In his 3 seasons before arriving he had terrible injuries so guess we were lucky to get a pretty good one out of him last season.

Spanish Dave took quite a while to warm up to his best when he first arrived. This season he was just turd. Maybe he just didnt appreciate being let go then brought back when we didnt get anyone better in?

Both gotta go I'm afraid.

Spanish Dave took quite a while to warm up to his best when he first arrived.

This is true, but then he was a revelation - one of our best players in the second half of the season. Just struck me how some of our squad who played well last year have shown nothing like that form under Oscar.

They're both brilliant when fit and played in the right system. I don't think we've seen either of them at 100% or playing in the role they enjoy the most so it's been a difficult season for them. Particularly frustrating for Orlandi who is unbelievably gifted but just totally off the pace. Dave had struggled, but in the right system could be devastating like he was under Poyet. I can't see us changing the way we play to suit him though so I think it might be time to let him thank him for everything he's done and part ways.

If I had one contract to give out, Orlandi would be getting it.

It's simple, it's tactical.

They have the quality to put in a good ball, something we've been seriously lacking this season.

Unfortunately for them our tactics this season have suited a more English style. Battle and compete and work hard for the ball in the midfield. Under Gus they flourished because we controlled the ball and maximised their strengths. This season we've exposed their weaknesses.

Spanish Dave is not a winger. This has been proven time after time, and his short cameo in the centre of midfield against Ipswich before Buckley got injured showed he still has something. Orlandi just really didn't want to get injured again, which is why he didn't go into tackles or work hard, which although understandable after his whole season of injuries, isn't acceptable in a game like yesterday.

Totally this, I think. Oscar has tried to mix it up - under Poyet they had more time on the ball.

They are both excellent assets and a joy to behold when they are fit, the same can be said of Bruno.

Orlandi has an excuse. David doesn't.

Will we see either next season? Doubt it.

Personally however I'd give Orlandi another chance to get fit and have a go. David has had what, two (?) good games all season and has been well off the pace otherwise. No chance I'd offer him anything. We got half a season out of him and whilst it was a great half a season, he's done so little this year that I can't see him regaining that form and realistically we need to shape up and ship out

It pains me to say it, but I can't see Spanish Dave being with us next season.

Agreed that he hasn't had a great season. It is worth noting he still managed 2 nominations for goal of the season though and the assists against Leicester were sublime.
Like many others in the squad (Buckley, Kaz, Ulloa) he never achieved a consistent level of performance, which matched last season's heights.

I put this down to the transitional nature of this season.
I'm hopeful that Oscar knows the nucleus of the squad he wants for next year and that he now understands what is required in the championship.

Interesting times ahead, but for now.. Thanks SD for the free kick and celebration against Palace...... that was an amazing piece of skill and emotion.

Pace is a huge issue in this league - Derby being an example of what that pace can achieve. Instead, Orlandi and Lopez need the type of space and time and which they are just not afforded in the Championship.
So what are you left with? Dead ball specialists? Last year maybe, but this season the delivery has largely been woeful when they have been on the field.
What next - commitment and aggression? That ain't gonna happen either so not really sure what they add any more I'm afraid.

Didnt want Spanish Dave re-signed in the first place, in fact I was slated a fair bit for saying so on here - but I have been proven correct.

He has been poor this season and his wages certainly could have been better used.

They can both go. Orlandi could be ok, but his knee injury is not going to heel sufficiently to play regularly for a prolonged period.

Lopez, wasn't that sold on him, after he went missing in the play-off against Palace.

As predicted. Why are we getting rid of two obviously very talented players just because they didn't suit Oscar's style?
