Jade Keogh was Gillingham's main playmaker and could have put her side in front after working her way into the box before firing her attempt wide.Despite starting slow it was Albion who seized the initiative midway through the half. First Charlotte Young intercepted the ball off of Felicity Gibbons but her shot came back off the post.
Soon after Gibbons was once again at fault as her sloppy back pass was pounced on by Paige Baker-Carroll who slotted the ball into the net from inside the box.
Gillingham were eager to hit back and just two minutes after falling behind as Deanna Cooper was denied an equaliser by the right hand of Charlotte Sole.
Charlotte Gurr had two excellent chances to put the Gills level before half-time; first firing into the side netting from a free-kick and then shooting over the bar right on half-time.
After half-time, Gillingham came out with the attacking intent that you would expect from the champions elect.
It took them just two minutes to level the scores as a weak lunch from Sole fell to Gibbons who calmly slotted home.
From there the away side maintained their dominance, as Lucy Somes's off target shot was all Albion had to show for the majority of the half.
Keogh then once again showed her class on the wing but her free-kick 15 minutes from time didn't trouble Sole greatly.
The game's two main talking points arrived in the last ten minutes; With Fulgence baring down on goal Sole came out to intercept the ball but committed the foul. She was given a yellow and picked up an injury in the process.
Not long afterwards, Fulgence* gave Gillingham the lead with two minutes left on the clock. However Albion felt that the Gills striker had handled the ball in the process.
Albion's attempts to find a late equaliser were slim to none and defeat means Albion will finish the season in 7th.
ALBION: Sole (Simmonds 84), Honor, Beaumont, Thompson, West; Barton, Young, Poole; Somes, Waine, Baker-Carroll (Merritt 67). SUBS NOT USED: Capon, Carter, Green.
