Obviously cutting down on the booze is a start, walking around a lot and maintaining good posture if you have a desk job helps. Diet - lighter meals, small and regular with fresh ingredients can help. How do you feel when you lay down? Do you find you can only sleep in certain positions?
Paracetamol is very harsh on the Liver/pancreas so while it helps with pain it could be problematic - but hey I'm no doctor so seek better advice. Has your friend had Crons disease ruled out?
Yes - they have had scans, biopsy and bloods done. Current view is (at worst) 70% chronic pancreatitis 30% pancreatic cancer (early stages). Paracetamol is standard early treatment for pain relief with chronic pancreatitis but I'm interested in what other people may have done to manage the condition. Cheers.
No alcohol (ever). Quit smoking. Low fat diet. NSAID - start with ibuprofen, move on to Sodium Diclofenac as pain worsens. Potassium as the salt component in the Diclofenac will work too (thus enabling you to buy Voltorol otc), but will release the active ingredient far quicker than Sodium, making it less good for night time use.
All I can add is of no comfort but please make sure the diagnosis is the best they can offer. I say that my father was diagnosed with pancreatitus and he was told to go home after a few days in hospital. His condition worsened and by the time they bothered to do the necessary scans etc it was too late. He died of cancer of the pancreas. There was one specialist who wanted a scan done in the first place but was overruled by another. Three months passed before the correct diagnosis, too late.
