Anyone got any experiences of managing this condition that they are willing to share? Have had medical advice but would like to hear what treatment sufferers have found effective. Thanks.

Obviously cutting down on the booze is a start, walking around a lot and maintaining good posture if you have a desk job helps. Diet - lighter meals, small and regular with fresh ingredients can help. How do you feel when you lay down? Do you find you can only sleep in certain positions?

Thanks. It's not me thank God but someone I am very close to. They suffer from almost constant stomach pain/disturbance which is exacerbated by eating so have lost a lot of weight over the past year. They don't drink or smoke and currently manage the pain with paracetamol. Lying down does seem to alleviate the pain.

Paracetamol is very harsh on the Liver/pancreas so while it helps with pain it could be problematic - but hey I'm no doctor so seek better advice. Has your friend had Crons disease ruled out?

Yes - they have had scans, biopsy and bloods done. Current view is (at worst) 70% chronic pancreatitis 30% pancreatic cancer (early stages). Paracetamol is standard early treatment for pain relief with chronic pancreatitis but I'm interested in what other people may have done to manage the condition. Cheers.

No alcohol (ever). Quit smoking. Low fat diet. NSAID - start with ibuprofen, move on to Sodium Diclofenac as pain worsens. Potassium as the salt component in the Diclofenac will work too (thus enabling you to buy Voltorol otc), but will release the active ingredient far quicker than Sodium, making it less good for night time use.

mine was caused by a rogue gall stone and I had all the tests and fortunately that was the only cause in the interim time before I had the gall bladder removed it was rest and no change from my normal medication.
I hope whoever this is gets it resolved soon.

Thanks - wish it was a gall stone here too. Don't think their condition is resolvable it's more a matter of how best to manage it so they can eat and maintain weight, stamina & some quality of life.

Many thanks - will pass this on - it's time to step up from paracetamol for sure.

All I can add is of no comfort but please make sure the diagnosis is the best they can offer. I say that my father was diagnosed with pancreatitus and he was told to go home after a few days in hospital. His condition worsened and by the time they bothered to do the necessary scans etc it was too late. He died of cancer of the pancreas. There was one specialist who wanted a scan done in the first place but was overruled by another. Three months passed before the correct diagnosis, too late.

Thanks for posting. Very sorry about your dad and the experience you had. We're getting a second opinion on everything. Be it chronic pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer both are only treatable not curable so given how aggressive that cancer is we'd prefer pancreatitis and the time it may buy.

I wish you well.

I lost my mum to Cancer of the Pancreas when I was 12. Although that was 40 years ago, I'm afraid it's still one if the worst forms of Cancer. I really hope your friend pulls through.

All the best.
