Experience gained from losing playoffs last season

Could be critical in giving us an edge, in my view.

Derby don't have players with that collective experience, we do. From last year, we know what the 'feel' of the match will be, and in effect the Forest game had the same sudden death sensation.

Look at the Champions League, it takes teams a couple of years to get their act together eg Man City.

It's all to play for, but this could be a key factor.

Should help us a little.

But then let's hope we don't get Wigan with all their Wembley experience.

Going back 10 years*:

6 teams (out of 40) had 'playoff experience' of the previous year.

One won (West Ham, 2005) and the other 5 (Forest, Preston, Ipswich and Cardiff twice running) fell in the semis.

Ergo - If anything, experience of the previous year reduces your chances of winning the playoffs.

*Statistically insignificant & meaningless stattery.

That's depressing and a little amazing. Five failing is one thing but for them all to fall in the semis is quite remarkable.

Has anyone made it a third time in a row?

The play-off experience might make a small difference but is nothing compared to the extra edge of the Wembley experience the Wigan players will have should they make it.
