A campaign to raise awareness of prostate cancer and prostate health featuring former Albion manager Alan Mullery, ex-captain Guy Butters and current striker Craig Mackail-Smith will be launched at tonight’s Albion v Yeovil match.

The joint initiative by Albion in the Community (AITC) and Prostate Cancer UK, the official charity of the Football League, aims to raise awareness amongst Albion fans particularly men over 50, the group most at risk from prostate cancer.*

It is the first time Prostate Cancer UK, the charity behind ‘Movember’ have commissioned a ‘by the fans for the fans’ campaign at a football league club and follows a number of successful AITC local cancer awareness projects.Albion fans have played a major role in developing the campaign working with AITC to create ideas to help get the message across on prostate cancer and prostate health to the club’s fanbase.
One of the ideas, to recruit past and present Albion heroes to help get the message across to different generations of Albion fans, has seen Mullery, Butters and Mackail-Smith be part of a poster and video campaign that will feature at tonight’s match.
The club’s Scottish striker said:“Football can be a great way of reaching a male audience on health issues particularly when it comes to something like prostate cancer. As men, we don’t always feel comfortable about talking about it, so these campaigns can really make a difference in getting the message across.”
Albion fan and prostate cancer survivor, Andy Holmes will be interviewed on the pitch alongside Mullery and Butters during half-time to talk about the campaign.
