A259 closed both ways due to suspected subsidence near West Street. Traffic being diverted up Grand Avenue & the Old Steine.

Nowhere near the Amex of course but presumably if it is subsidence, there won't be any quick fix & it's likely to cause big delays in town later.

You're welcome

If West Street went the way of South Street, would it be any great loss ?

There are several great big holes in West Street, none of which, however, would appear to be a threat to passing motorists (unless you count teenagers vomiting on your car as you pass at 3am).

I'm grateful for this news but...

Is it just me or are other people confused by references to road numbers?

I know all the big roads but when people - usually BBC Sussex traffic people - say things like there's a big hold up on the westbound A123 east of the junction with the B456 I haven't a clue what they're talking about. I just wish they'd use the descriptions we can all understand. "The turnoff to Hassocks at Pyecombe"... "Ditchling High Street"... that sort of thing. They can add the numbers if they want.

Doesn't help when both the radio and Argus earlier were reporting the problem as being in Shoreham. Argus have corrected themselves now

The real question though is..................................

Is the cycle path affected by this?

Only for cyclists weighing more than twenty stone, is my guess.

are the police looking into it?

Ooh - any chance the EDL could legitimately be told to f**k off on Sunday due to extenuating circumstances/unable to guarantee safety etc?

Do you know, I hadn't even thought of that.

Maybe I'll get my Sunday off after all :)

:clap2: :lolol:

Apparently it's more of a depression than a hole, it turns out. So far.

Eastbourne
Eastbound will be closed for 2/3 weeks according to B&H Council on Twitter - contraflow to be put into place on Westbound side.

City Centre is gridlocked and buses are screwed.

Eastbound lane will be closed for 2-3 weeks, is the current estimate. Contraflow to be set up on the westbound, so it seems.

That'll mean long delays whichever way you're headed.

Still no word on how this affects the marchers on Sunday though.
