Although the Glovers have only been a Football League club since 2003, our paths have crossed twice in the FA Cup. Given Yeovil's non-league reputation as giant-killers par excellence, you may wonder whether the Somerset club have ever upset us in that grand old competition.

Revenge was sweet fourteen years later. On the same ground with its famous slope, Albion overwhelmed Yeovil Town 4-1 in November 1952. Frankie Howard, Les Owens (2) and a Des Tennant penalty sealed a safe passage to the FA Cup 2nd Round. You can feast your eyes on a green inked wonder as Seagulls Programmes provides another scan.Unsurprisingly, not many footballers have played for both Brighton and Yeovil before recent history. Before Albion’s bustling striker Terry Connor wound up his playing days, he had a short spell with the Somerset side in 1993 but failed to score. Also, there's David Coles, a goalkeeper who made just one Seagulls appearance in 1989 before putting on the Glovers’ gloves in 96 Conference games from 1991 to 1994.
Both Connor and Coles played under Brighton boss Barry Lloyd in the Second Division. Did you know that Lloyd, the current Albion chief scout, started out his management days as player-boss of Yeovil Town in the late 1970s, years before his first Goldstone spell? You can read his fond memories of both clubs on the official Fulham FC website.
Current Yeovil gaffer is Gary Johnson. Memorably, he was in the Peterborough hot-seat when his side lost 3-0 to a vintage Seagulls performance in October 2010, a game he wanted fans to treat as a ‘cup final.’ Rewind to May 1993 for a happier time for him, as he landed his first manager’s job, at Cambridge United. However, on New Year’s Day in 1994, his U’s side proved no match for Kurt Nogan who bagged a hat-trick at the Goldstone.

Of course, Seagulls’ assistant head coach Nathan Jones had memorable playing spells with both Albion and Yeovil. Having experienced Play-Off success with the Albion in 2004, the Welshman captained the Glovers when they lost a play-off final at Wembley against Blackpool in 2007. Russell Slade was his boss at Huish Park. When Slade joined the Seagulls in March 2009, he got off to a flyer with an emphatic 5-0 demolition of Yeovil at Withdean:

Although he didn’t score for the Albion that day, ex-Glover Lloyd Owusu had a profound effect on the rest of the season, plundering seven goals for Brighton in 14 League One matches as his side ran into a rich vein of late season form. Time to raise the roof once more?
