Brighton & Hove Albion captain Gordon Greer has admitted that tonight’s clash with Yeovil Town is the kind of encounter that all professional footballers want to be involved in.
The Seagulls must take all three points this evening in order to keep their play-off hopes alive, but in their way stands a Glovers’ side that will be condemned to relegation should they not win.
Greer told seagulls.co.uk, “First and foremost it is up to us to go and get the three points. We are all striving for the same thing: to get into the play-offs and then see where that takes us. All of that starts tonight and we need to get a victory.
“People talk a lot about pressure and there will be no pressure on Yeovil - they can just come and enjoy the game. But we have something big to play for and that is to get into the play-offs, so we will be giving it everything.
“These are the kind of games that you want to be part of as a footballer though. You don’t want to be stuck in the middle of the table playing for nothing. It’s great to be a part of it all and having something to play for so hopefully we can get a result.”

Jesse Lingard, Kazenga LuaLua and Solly March were all given starting berths in the Albion’s previous 1-1 draw with Blackpool, and Greer is increasingly aware of his responsibility to the squad’s younger players as the season draws to a dramatic close.

“It’s my job as captain to keep everyone going at this time of the year. When the pressure starts to come and we need to get victories it is up to the older, more experienced players to take the pressure and let the younger guys just enjoy the game. We want them to be able to do what they have been doing in training and games all season.
“We’ve got a lot of young players in key positions and they are all great players and characters. They are going to be vital in these final stages of the season and I know that they are all more than capable of delivering for us.”
The Seagulls are vying with a number of teams to obtain the final play-off position, however Greer is determined for his squad to focus on their own position rather than occupying themselves with the form of their rivals.
“Obviously when you look at the league table you try and analyse what might happen, but there are just so many things that can happen. All we can do is focus on wanting to win tonight and then we can wait and see what happens with the other sides on Saturday.
“We have a good opportunity to go and win and put the pressure back one everyone else. So we just need to focus on our own performance and make sure we get the three points.”
