Competence of the officials

Referees have been cocking it up for the last 150 years , some things will never change.

Absolutely agree. Officiating across all divisions verges on the farcical. The ref we had for Charlton was the notable exception, but invariably they are hideous bunglers.

If players didn't feel the need to try and con the officials at every opportunity (Lua Lua) then maybe the standard would improve.

The standard of officiating this season has been pathetic.

It all started with D'Urso not awarding the clear penalty versus Derby when the defender charged the free kick with his hands raised.

Of course nothing to do with the fact, we actually aren't that good and our position flatters us.

Agree. LuaLua was a disgrace today, going to ground at every opportunity. Players like that don't help the cause at all.

Yeah, that's a much bigger problem than it used to be.

So just moan about the ref when the actual issue is we are simply not good enough.

That's right. The officials have to make many more decisions than they should because of play-acting and dishonesty.

Someone on the radio suggested today that refs should start criticising managerial selections

If players, managers, pundits and fans had a better understanding of the current laws of the game, they would also realise refereeing isn't as bad as they think.*

*That's not to say some refs don't make mistakes or have bad games, they do, but not as often and/or as bad as they are presented as.

This. He was fouled one or twice and got nothing, but he's a lazy git who would rather fall over and try to con the ref than play football at the moment. Not surprised he was subbed, only wish he hadn't started, he's been largely awful this season.

They're completely separate issues.

I doubt anyone moaning about the ref today is actually blaming him for the result, but he was shocking nonetheless.

I suspect that most will agree that the result today was simply because we weren't good enough. That has nothing to do with the standard of officiating, which, for the most part, is poor for a professional game. Refs in park football you can almost forgive, but those in the professional game really should be performing better than they are.

They'll will always get some decisions wrong but what infuriates me more than anything else is their complete ineptitude at dealing with time wasting. They only ever book someone when it is so late in the game it doesn't matter and today, the idiot even held up the game to fill in his little notebook after one of their players had yet again kicked the ball away. And what a pratt he looked when he ran over to escort Keogh off the pitch!!!

well everyone close to me can see the ref always gets it wrong
even when the ball is at the other end.
mind you these are the same people who berate the linesman every corner
because the ball isn't in the d when only it's shadow needs to be

Ref last week was very good the ref today was woeful it's the inconstancy that is the problem we need a new method of training and rating referees, and major games in any of the leagues need to best referees

He got a nasty knock on his weak ankle early in the game today.

I though he was playing in gym shoes because he kept slipping over. He is clearly an impact player only although playing him through the middle must've confused him and everyone else.
