Over $4 million for Landon Donovan?!
Who the hell is Michael Bradley and how exactly has he become the highest paid player in the league?!

Probably. Name doesn't ring a bell though and seems an extreme salary for someone who's not played domestic football to a decent standard.

Only joined Toronto FC in January after making 41 appearances for Roma in a year and a half

He signed for Toronto from Roma in January, and has previously played for Aston Villa and Borussia Monchengladbach, he's also one of the only "top" players in the league who is not at retirement age (he's only 26) which is probably another reason he is on a large salary.

Who remembers Chris Birchell, who left us to go to LA Galaxy to play with Beckham? Interesting bit on Wikipedia:

In January 2009, Birchall joined League One side Brighton & Hove Albion on an initial week-trial with a view to earning a contract.[SUP][20][/SUP] He later signed a contract until the end of the season,[SUP][21][/SUP] teaming up with his old Coventry boss Micky Adams.[SUP][22][/SUP] Three months later Brighton chairman Dick Knight blocked a move to Major League Soccer club Los Angeles Galaxy, telling Birchall he would not be allowed to leave the club on a free transfer.[SUP][23][/SUP] Despite this setback, Birchall seemed set on a move to the American franchise.[SUP][24][/SUP] He was freed from Brighton in May 2009 – along with thirteen other professionals.[SUP][25][/SUP] Later that month Birchall agreed a four-year contract with the LA Galaxy.[SUP][26][/SUP]

As someone has already said he use to play for Roma. I saw him play last year for the USA he made Dempsey (who I rate) look very average next to him that night.
