Inspired by our very own Solomon March, who I fancy should really have been a stern faced lawyer in Great Expectations, who are the most Dickensian-sounding footballers please?

I'll throw in Mr Jacob Butterfield, who was almost certainly a kindly-faced but perennially poor grocer in a previous life, and Mr Nathaniel Knight-Percival (not sure what he'd be, but he'd be titled and loaded).

Apart from the old and curious Mr Edward Sheringham I have previously offered, I also proffer for your esteemed consideration Mr Donald Pickwick of Norwich City fame. I understand that there were some problems with his papers.

Jack Butland sounds like the local Blacksmiths apprentice. Of working class background but with the looks and charm to turn even the best bred ladies head.

Shurely King Solomon, man of 100 wives, predates Dickens by a few thousand years?

Wasn't William Edward Buckley a mill owner's son in Hard Times? Well he should have been.
