The second year of an Albion in the Community initiative to help local people gain employment in the local construction industry kicks off next week at the Amex.
Want to Work in Construction, supported by construction companies Bouygues UK, HOP and Centurion Group alongside City College Brighton and Hove will this year have a focus on the club's new state-of-the-art training ground in Lancing.
The programme will see a host of experts deliver workshops and masterclasses on different aspects of construction including architecture and design, engineering, logistics and site management to a group of around 30 jobseekers and college graduates.Participants will also get advice on CV writing and interview preparation as part of the free, three-day event between April 14-16. Denne, a Bouygues UK company, who are currently delivering four major construction projects in Brighton, will again be delivering an employability workshop at the event.
The final day will focus on the new training ground, due for completion this summer, with participants tasked with designing their own masterplan for the 40 acre site.
The event will finish with a special construction jobs fair at the stadium where those on the programme will get the chance to meet potential employers. Over 40% of those who took part in last year’s programme went on to get full time jobs in the construction industry with local architects, engineering and construction firms.
Martin Perry, executive director of Brighton & Hove Albion, who will leading a presentation on the new training ground as part of the event told seagulls.co.uk, “This is a great opportunity for people looking for employment in the construction sector to learn from the experts and find out what goes into delivering major projects like the one in Lancing.
The development of the new training ground has generated 300 local construction jobs and, through AITC and the support of the partners involved, we hope this programme will give even more local people job opportunities in construction.”
