Brighton & Hove Albion's elite women's development manager Tracy Doe says the success of Saturday's England women's international at the Amex will help the women's game to continue to thrive in Sussex.

The biggest crowd at a home women’s international since 9,616 fans watched the national team take on Iceland at Carrow Road in 2006 witnessed the Lionesses 9-0 victory - which was also their biggest victory since the 13-0 win against Hungary in 2005.Doe told seagulls.co.uk, “The positive repercussions from hosting a women’s international here at the Amex will be felt at the club and across Sussex for many years to come and shows there is a growing passion for the women's game here in Sussex.*

“The increased focus on women’s football brought by the match will definitely encourage females across Sussex to either get involved for the first time or re-engage in the sport.“We are working closely with the Sussex County FA and Brighton & Hove City Council on a number of different initiatives to capitalise on the enthusiasm generated by this fixture.
“With a crowd of nearly 9,000 and a further 700,000 watching the game live on BBC2, we remain committed to harnessing the unprecedented level of interest in the sport and are setting out a clear plan to take our club into the Women’s Super League.”
The FA’s Director of the National Game and Women’s Football, Kelly Simmons, also recognised the club’s impressive achievement.
She added, “I would like to say thank you to everyone at Brighton & Hove Albion for a fantastic day on Saturday.
“Everything from the fanzone, the record attendance, the atmosphere and event logistics was ran superbly. The nine goals helped raise a cheer too!
“It makes me very proud as an adopted Brightonian!”
