Also, in a similar vein "But there was contact", as used to justify a player flinging himself to the ground theatrically. That makes it all ok. So long as there was "contact".

Annoys the hell out of me, why is ok to be beaten at the far post, but to be beaten at the near is punishable by death?
Surely a keeper should be a position to cover all the goal and if a shot is accurate to beat him it doesn't matter if it is at the near or far post?
Or am I missing something?

I think there is a Gordon Strachan clip somewhere where he takes the piss after being asked a question along the lines of "So do you think you scored a little too early?"

I always remember our FA Cup reply with Liverpool at the Goldstone after the 2-2 draw at Anfield. We went one up early on the first half and felt that goal awoke a sleeping lion.
