Last season*Brighton & Hove Albion**slumped to a disappointing 2-1 defeat to the Tykes with Chris Dagnell’s second-half penalty giving the hosts three points but it was a more entertaining contest than the 2011/12 one.*
Both sides met on the final day of the season in what was a dead rubber of a game, with neither team vying for promotion or battling against relegation, and a tepid 0-0 draw ensued.
Kevin Betsy was the match winner in August 2003 in a 1-0 win for the Yorkshire side, which ended a gap of 11 years since the two clubs had met. The previous encounter was in 1992 and marked the last occasion Albion succeeded at Oakwell in a 2-1 victory.

That win was Brighton’s first at Barnsley in 20 years, since a narrow 1-0 triumph in the old Division Three in 1972, but it is the Tykes who hold the record for largest win margin with their 4-0 victory in 1968.
The two sides’ first ever meeting at Oakwell was in an FA Cup clash back in 1924 which ended goalless but the Seagulls edged the replay 1-0 four days later at the Goldstone Ground.
