Brighton & Hove Albion women captain Tammy Waine praised the side’s determination and commitment after a 1-0 win against West Ham on Sunday. The top-scorer netted her 11th goal of the season to claim three vital points for John Donoghue’s side, ending a run of five consecutive defeats. She told seagulls.co.uk, “We worked really hard today like we have done in all the other games recently but we just haven’t had that bit of luck.

Waine and Amy Potkins both had strikes ruled out, which would have made the result even more emphatic, but the skipper admits that the side are just relieved to end their scoring drought. She added, “The referee said there was some pulling on the line for Amy’s goal and I had one ruled out for offside. Overall I felt we deserved the win and having the ball in the back of the net three times is a real confidence boost.
“You saw from the celebrations just how excited everyone was to finally score a goal. We’ve had a few chances recently, but haven’t been as clinical in the final third. Hopefully we’ve rectified that now.”
