Brighton & Hove Albion women ended a run of five consecutive defeats with a hard fought victory away at West Ham.Tammy Waine’s strike 20 minutes from time was enough to secure the three points for John Donoghue’s side at Thurrock FC.
West Ham had the first-chance of the match, when Toni-Anne Wayne saved Stacey Little’s header from inside the box.
Wayne was called into action again, this time making a superb last-ditch challenge to deny Albert in a one-on-one chance.
Rosie Kmita then found herself in space on the edge of the box and forced Hammers keeper Lauren Picton into a fine fingertip save.

Albion had the ball in the net just before the half-hour mark as Waine finished well from Yasmin Poole’s pass, but the linesman’s flag was raised.Albert was the east Londoners’ main threat in the first-half and Cally Beaumont made a superb block to stop her sliding pass across the box.
Donoghue’s side started the second half brightly and created a number of chances; Lucy Somes fired wide from inside the box, before Waine also had a chance that missed the target.
It was the Albion skipper who broke the deadlock in the 69th minute after coolly striking the ball into the bottom corner to give the Seagulls a well-deserved lead.
Albion had chances to double their advantage, when Somes played through Mollie Kmita on goal only for Picton to make another good save.
Amy Potkins then thought she had scored a potentially decisive second goal from a Waine corner with a bullet header, but her effort was ruled out for an infringement inside the box.
ALBION: Wayne (GK); Honor (Potkins 62), Beaumont, West, Carter; Barton, Young, Poole; Waine, Somes, Rosie Kmita (Mollie Kmita 69).
