Brighton factually.....
Such a shame, it was a great little shop and I loved popping into have a browse and would buy a few cd's and records a month from them.

This is what the Argus put.

Brighton's Borderline Records closes doors for the last time.

The record shop that has served music enthusiasts for more than 30 years has closed its doors for the last time.
Borderline Records, in Gardener Street, Brighton, which opened in 1981, shut up shop yesterday as owners Dave Minns and Sian Davis, both 64, took the needle off the vinyl and retired.

Mr Minns said: “It is time for us to move on.
“We are going to take some time out and do some other things - but hopefully still stay involved with music and sell off our stock online.”

It is understood that the record shop will be replaced by a coffee shop called Bluebird.
Mr Minns said they have watched the area change and the image of bohemian Brighton begin the shift towards London Road and North Laine, leaving the town centre more focused on larger businesses catering to day trippers.

He said: “While it is still a fantastic city, the old vibe has moved away.”
Mr Minns added they were also facing declining business due to the increase in business rates and because of the trend of people buying online.
He said independent shops selling specialist items, such as vinyl records, have been feeling particularly squeezed.
Borderline appeared in the 2009 film Last Shop Standing which documented the disappearance of more than 2,000 independent record shops in Britain.
According to figures in 2009, there were just 169 left.
Mr Minns has worked in the area since 1964 and has assured friends that he will still be around.
He added he had countless fond memories of the shop, recalling meeting bands such as Primal Scream and Oasis who came in to browse the racks.
Mr Minns added: “I would also like to say thanks to all our customers and their support over the last 30 years.”

Dave and Sian are virtually neighbours of ours, they moved to Shoreham some years ago. THat speaks volumes in itself

I remember buying records from Dave when he was up stairs in the old flea market which was a Tesco way back!

Great shame. Always used to go in when down in Brighton - sadly only a couple of times a year now that the ground is at Falmer. The last time was at the beginning of February and the shop was looking a bit "tired" then.

Ah no. Real shame. I was building up a nice little collection of CDs of Brazilian samba. Stan Getz, Joao Gilberto. And he had some wicked little compilation albums of early rock n roll. Bit cheeky but what's he doing with all his stock?

On line sales I think, they had a good line in rockabilly and rock'n'roll completion two cd box sets for a about £6 each great value and although got most on record saved me scratching them.

Vinyl sales are at their highest for over 5 years currently

Yes but relative to what?

I remember it when it was upstairs in the "Jubilee Market" now Komedia. I used to enjoy my regular wanders around the second hand record shops in the North Laine(s) over the years especially when I was on a mission to replace my vinyl with CD. Now the CD's have gone as well and I have only a smidgeon of my music in tangible form.

Such a shame. He always had a good selection of blues which you just don't find in the chains. Another one bites the dust.

Yet Another coffee shop, just exactly what Brighton and the North Laine need! What with a few national chains moving in and long standing institutions like Borderline disappearing, the unique and bohemian flavour of this area is at risk.

I had some great times in the 80's and 90's spending many a Saturday afternoon browsing for vinyl gems when it was above Jubilee Shopping Hall (now Komedia) :(

"Hey ..what's wrong with you?? you're looking kinda good to me!!" classic every day. So many top boys passing through, FBS, Carl Cox, Wildchild, me best mate Smudge, the one and only Mick Fuller; oh.. and Mr Russell Small to name a few of the dance boys! Great lose to Brightons' music scene; however I ain't bought any vinyl for donkeys!!!
