Simon Rusk praised his side’s battling qualities as Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-18s beat Charlton on Saturday.

The Seagulls recovered from a goal down to win 2-1 thanks to strikes from Jordan Maguire-Drew and Connor Tighe.
*
Both players profited from Jack Rowe-Hurst deliveries into the box in the 55th and 65th minutes respectively, securing back-to-back wins following the previous week’s victory over Millwall.Rusk told seagulls.co.uk, “I was really pleased with the boys; they put in a very good shift against a strong Charlton side, who on their day were quite direct in their approach to beat us.
“I thought we matched them in the battle and at times some of our football was very good. I was proud of their performance.

“The boys showed two sides of the game in needing to be tough and win their battles individually. We also showed a bit of quality in our two goals as well.”
*
The under-18 coach was also delighted to see a number of under-16 players progressing through the ranks, with three players ending the game on Saturday.
*
He added, “We had two young sides going into both the Millwall and the Charlton games and they’ve come out with six points.
*
“They’ve worked hard and played some good passing football. We finished with three under-16s on the pitch and James Tilley came on the pitch and technically did a good job.
*
“We’ve taken on a new batch of scholars and it’s now up to them to put pressure on the players in the older age groups.”
