Aaron Mitchell then nearly headed in a Rangers corner at the near post, but was denied by Walton.Simon Ireland’s side grew into the match and netted an equaliser in the 21st minute; a well-worked Albion set-piece found its way to Rea on the edge of the box and the young defender rifled his shot past Joe Lumley.
Craig Mackail-Smith looked lively on his return to the Amex and nearly scored Albion’s second, with Lumley making a strong stop to deny the striker.
Mackail-Smith had another opportunity moments later, after some good work by Monakana on the right-hand side, but Coll Donaldson was on hand to clear the ball behind.
Monakana continued to look threatening throughout the first half and saw a shot go narrowly wide of the far post.
QPR made the perfect start to the second half, when striker Sharif showed some neat footwork inside the Albion box and rifled home a shot past Walton.
Albion had limited chances in search of a second equaliser, as Lumley was quick to thwart Mackail-Smith from a Jesse Starkey through-ball, before the Rangers keeper was called into action to tip a Charlie Harris free-kick over the bar.
Harris then had another chance with a deflected drive from distance, but Lumley was on hand to save the midfielder’s effort.
QPR had a chance to wrap up the game when Petrasso went through on goal only to be denied thanks to another crucial interception, this time by Rea.
Substitute Jordan Maguire-Drew almost scored a dramatic equaliser after finding himself in space inside the box, but shot over the bar from close range as Rangers claimed the three points.
