Gordon Greer in action against Ipswich
ALBION captain Gordon Greer has urged his team-mates not to abandon their passing principles at the Amex – even when things are going badly.
The centre-half believes players were influenced by the crowd “just to kick the ball forward” during the 2-0 home defeat by Ipswich.
He says they adopted the wrong tactics to get back in the game after falling behind.
Tommy Smith nodded Ipswich in front from a corner after an hour and a Daryl Murphy header 20 minutes later sealed only the Seagulls' second defeat in 12 home outings.
Greer told the Argus: “I thought we were on top for most of the game but they scored from a corner and as soon as it went 1-0 we went back to front too much.
“I could feel the crowd were kind of wanting us just to kick the ball forward and a lot of the players did that. I just don’t think that was the right way to try to break them down.
“We are a passing team and we're a patient team with the ball. It’s easier to turn against the team when you are losing games but I don’t think we played that badly. We were the better team but they took their chances and we didn't take ours.”
Albion are still eighth, three points outside the play-offs with a game in hand, ahead of tomorrow night’s trip to Sheffield Wednesday and another home game against Middlesbrough.
Greer said: “We’ve been on a really good run. It was disappointing to lose but we’ve got a massive game on Tuesday and another massive game on Saturday, so they are coming thick and fast.”
