This Saturday Brighton & Hove Albion's American Express Community Stadium will premiere one of the FA's new films to encourage reporting of discrimination in football. The short film will be shown in the build up to the SkyBet Championship match with Ipswich Town, and it shows the actions fans should take if they experience discrimination - including racist or homophobic abuse - at a match.Chief executive Paul Barber told seagulls.co.uk, "We are committed to helping to tackle discrimination at the Amex and across football. To do this we must all continue to work together to help educate fans that a certain type of behaviour will not be tolerated.
"These excellent films from the FA are a great way of showing fans how to react if they experience racist, homophobic or any other type of discrimination at any matches at any level."
The FA today launched four short animated films showing fans and players exactly what to do if you come across discrimination while attending or taking part in a football match.The films, available to view on Albion's Official YouTube Channel, are also being distributed widely across professional and grassroots football by the FA, and bring to life the animations of Paul ‘You Are the Ref’ Trevillion. They are narrated by former England stars, Graeme Le Saux and Dion Dublin.
FA board member and chair of Inclusion Advisory Board, Heather Rabbatts, said, “We know under-reporting of discrimination of in the game is an issue, therefore instilling confidence is key. The FA and the Inclusion Advisory Board has worked with stakeholders across the game in developing these films which hope to convey how easy it is to report.”
Lord Herman Ouseley, Chair of Kick It Out, football’s equality and inclusion campaign, added, “Kick It Out welcomes any material that will increase knowledge amongst players and supporters of how to report discriminatory incidents which occur across the professional game and grassroots level.
“These films need to gain maximum exposure and be disseminated as widely as possible so that awareness of the reporting procedures reaches all the game’s stakeholders throughout the country.
“The free downloadable Kick It Out app features in the films and offers a quick, easy and discreet way of reporting incidents anonymously. Kick It Out encourages The FA to continue producing information on the reporting procedures to ensure equality can be achieved by all.”
