ALBION * * * * * * * * * * 0*Brighton & Hove Albion women were knocked out of the FA Women's Cup by Coventry City in today's fourth round tie at the Ricoh Arena.
It was the Seagulls’ second defeat in the space of eight days against the Sky Blues, despite another spirited performance by John Donoghue’s side.
The game started with chances for both sides, as Charlie Carter blocked Marie Gauntlett’s effort on the line before Kirsty Barton fired wide from inside the box after Tammy Waine’s pass.

Paula Howells then delivered a superb ball into the path of Amy Potkins, only for City to clear the danger.

Albion keeper Toni-Anne Wayne was also called into action with a brave piece of goalkeeping to deny Ashleigh Neville from inside the box.The hosts took the lead through Natasha Lynch, who diverted Neville’s initial shot past Wayne.
Donoghue’s side started the second half with a good chance for skipper Tammy Waine, whose speculative effort was saved by City keeper Sue Wood.
Howells had another opportunity to put the Seagulls onto the scoresheet, but her strike from distance went past Wood’s far post.
Substitute Destiny Toussaint had a chance to double Coventry’s advantage after shrugging off the challenge of Rebecca Thompson-Agbro, but Wayne was alert to save.
Nikki Miles also could have scored City’s second after racing one-on-one with Wayne, but was denied thanks to Carter's superb last-ditch challenge.
It was end to end, as Albion fought to stay in the cup and they had half-chances to level: Yasmin Poole’s shot was blocked from inside the box after Barton’s corner.
But the Sky Blues killed the game with just a few minutes remaining, when Miles coolly slotted the ball past Wayne to all but secure a place in the fifth round for the hosts.
Charley Boswell had the last chance of the game for the Seagulls as her close-range shot was blocked on the line, but Donoghue’s side were denied a consolation goal as Coventry progressed.
