How many Romanians can you fit into a MPV ?

I recall at Saltdean Primary school in the late 60's when the first police panda car came out - a little moggie-minor. Mr Plod came round to talk to us and the class were asked to see how many of us could squeeze in to his panda.

Have no idea how many did, but remember it was a bit of a giggle - up close and personal.

Managed to fit 6 of us (5 band, 1 roadie) into a tiny Vauxhall with full drum kit, 4 amps, 4 guitars/basses, PA, synths etc. Sadly my phone got caught when I went to shut the door and didn't survive the trip :nono:

Eight in a Fiat Panda, from Liverpool to some football pitch a few miles away.

Uncomfortable.

11 in a Ford Orion (including 2 in the boot) going from Hassocks station to a party in Clayton when I was about 17. It was all going fine until we started going up a hill and the car scraped along the ground, a few of us had to walk the last bit.

I feel a bit LET DOWN though, having opened the link and seen the pictures in the article. That's not a 'people carrier' or an 'MPV' is it? Its a minibus / big van.

42 people in a Renault Scenic would have been properly impressive.

Those Romanians could take a lesson from the Vietnamese. Spent 6 hours crammed into the luggage space at the back of a bus that size along with about 6 others between Danang and Hue. I counted 48 people getting off when we stopped for a meal break. Admittedly, a few of those were coming down off the roof.

We managed 11 in my Mk2 Ford Escort back in my student days, also with 2 in the boot and plentiful scraping on the corners. I didn't care. I was the driver so I had a seat to myself...

But why let the facts get in the way of the story ?

To be honest, I'm still trying to get my head around the fact that this Daily Mail article contains no reference to crime, begging or benefit fraud, or a suggestion of which leafy English village they were headed for.
